No-dig drainage repairs

Drain lining and patch repairs in London

Internal patch repairs and liners can repair suitable minor cracks, fractures, displaced joints and open joints without excavating the full pipe route. The right method depends on the position and extent of the defect.

Patch or liner?

Two no-dig methods for suitable localised drainage damage

A patch repair is used for an isolated defect. A resin-impregnated patch is positioned over the damaged area and cured against the inside of the existing pipe. It can be suitable for a minor crack or fracture, a localised displaced joint or an open joint where the host pipe remains capable of supporting the repair.

A liner uses the same principle across a longer section. It forms a continuous new internal surface where several defects are present or a greater length of suitable pipework needs reinforcement. Both methods reduce the need to expose the full drain from above.

These methods are not a substitute for excavation when the damage is severe. Cracked connections, collapsed sections and severely broken or badly displaced pipework normally require a controlled drainage dig-up and replacement.

Selecting the repair

Match the method to the extent of the defect

A CCTV survey shows whether the problem is isolated, extends along a larger section or is too severe for an internal repair.

01

Patch repair

A targeted resin repair for one suitable crack, fracture, displaced joint or open joint.

02

Drain liner

A continuous resin lining installed across a longer suitable section or a series of repairable defects.

03

Excavation and replacement

Direct access for cracked connections, collapsed drains and severely broken or badly displaced pipework.

Our approach

Survey, prepare and repair the identified defect

The host pipe and the defect must be suitable before a patch or liner is recommended.

STEP 01

CCTV assessment

The defect, pipe condition, dimensions and position are examined from inside the drainage line.

STEP 02

Clean and prepare

Deposits and obstructions are removed so the repair can be installed against a prepared surface.

STEP 03

Patch or line

An isolated patch or longer liner is positioned and cured where internal repair is suitable.

STEP 04

Check the result

The repaired section is reviewed; severe defects are instead directed to excavation and replacement.

Common questions

Drain lining and patch repair FAQs

What is the difference between a patch and a liner?

A patch targets one localised defect. A liner covers a longer suitable section and may repair several defects within that length. Both use resin-based materials cured against the inside of the host pipe.

What types of defect can be repaired without digging?

Suitable minor cracks, fractures, displaced joints and open joints may be repaired internally when the host pipe remains stable enough to support the patch or liner.

When is a drainage dig-up necessary?

Cracked connections, collapsed pipe sections, severe breakage and major displacement generally need direct access so the defective pipework can be removed and replaced.

Why is a CCTV survey needed first?

A CCTV drain survey shows the defect’s location, extent and surrounding pipe condition. That evidence determines whether a patch, liner or excavation is appropriate.

Does the pipe need cleaning before repair?

Yes. The internal surface needs suitable preparation. Water jetting or specialist machining may be used to remove debris, scale and deposits before an internal repair.
